Sustainable, responsible manufacturing is Baxter’s operating philosophy, so when an opportunity to reclaim cooling water from our manufacturing process in our Alliston, Ontario plant was identified, we were quick to act. We asked for input from the community and, working together, we found the right solution. Today, our facility achieves annual water savings equal to 50 Olympic-sized swimming pools. It’s also the 2005 recipient of the Recycling Council of Ontario’s Sustainable Technology Award.
To offset the minimal amount of carbon dioxide emitted by our Sherbrooke, Quebec manufacturing facility, we (through the Tree Canada Foundation) purchased, planted and are maintaining 500 trees close to our site. Our facility is the first in Canada to receive “Carbon Neutral Certification,” awarded to less than 50 companies worldwide.
Our commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop at meeting external standards. The Baxter Best Environmental, Health and Safety Program sets standards for Baxter facilities worldwide. In 2004, award winners conserved over $1 million (U.S.) worth of water and energy.
